The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is the administrator and lead agency of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office Metro Narcotics Unit. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office applies for and receives grant funding (Byrne/JAG and Drug Law Enforcement Grant) from the Office of Criminal Justice Services to offset the cost of salaries, equipment and other expenses for the operation of this division. The 25% percent match for both of these grants is paid for either by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office or through in-kind match, which is supplied by participating agencies through donated hours of service in personnel.
The Stark County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit is overseen by Major Rick Stauffer, the Stark County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division Commander. We presently have a full time agent in charge, three full time agents, three part time agents and one full time support person. The Unit is currently comprised of agents from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Canal Fulton Police Department, Canton Police Department, Jackson Township Police Department, Lawrence Township Police, Brewster Police Department, US Coast Guard, Adult Parole Authority and the North Canton Police Department. Agents of BCI, and DEA are also assigned to the Metro Unit. They offer and draw support from other federal, state, and local agencies within our jurisdiction and surrounding areas.
