Fair Housing is a right protected by federal and state laws.  Fair housing means you may freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, or because you are disabled or have children in your family.

Housing Discrimination Assistance

Stark County Fair Housing Department (SCFHD) investigates claims of housing discrimination and assists clients with filing discrimination complaints.  Contact us if you think you have been a victim of housing discrimination!  The department investigates housing discrimination complaints based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, and familial status (families with children under the age of 18).  You have one year after an alleged violation to file a fair housing complaint.

Tenant-Landlord Counseling 

The department counsels landlords and tenants on their rights and obligations.  It is our mission to help prevent problems between tenants and landlords by informing both parties of their rights and responsibilities.

Fair Housing Training

The Stark County Fair Housing Department's educational outreach program is part of an ongoing effort to educate the public in Stark County on the fair housing laws.  The SCFHD offers presentations, trainings, and seminars on Fair Housing and Landlord Tenant Laws for landlords, property managers, real estate professionals, social workers, attorneys, government officials, and others.
