The mission of the Veterans Service Commission of Stark County is to provide medical transportation to Stark County veterans. To qualify for this assistance, the applicant must have a medical appointment at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center or Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The veterans DD214 needs to be provided prior to using this service. 

Transportation for medical reasons shall be provided for veterans who are residents of Stark County for over 90 days, without regard to financial need, to the following Veterans Administration facilities serving Stark County veterans:

  • CBOC Akron
  • CBOC Canton
  • CBOC Parma
  • VAMC Louis Stokes Wade Park
  • VA Outsourced Appointments 

If the Department of Veterans Administration refers a veteran to a treatment facility other than that listed-above, medical transportation may be provided.

Veterans Service Commission of Stark County Announces New In-House Transportation Program to VAMC Wade Park | Louis Stokes Cleveland

[Canton, Ohio] The Veterans Service Commission of Stark County is pleased to announce the launch of a new in-house transportation program serving veterans traveling to the VA Medical Center (VAMC) Wade Park | Louis Stokes Cleveland.

Beginning March 1, 2026, the Veterans Service Commission of Stark County will assume full responsibility for providing transportation services directly to eligible veterans. This transition ensures continuity of service while strengthening local oversight, reliability, and responsiveness to veterans’ transportation needs.

“Our goal is to ensure veterans continue to have dependable, no-costs access to the medical care they have earned and deserve,” said De Ann Williams, executive director. “By providing this service directly, we are reinforcing our commitment to serving veterans and better positioned to respond to veterans’ needs, maintain accountability and provide consistent, veteran-focused support.”

Medical transportation services for Stark County veterans will continue to be provided by SARTA through February 28, 2026. As a result, transportation to VAMC Wade Park for Stark County Veterans will remain uninterrupted during the transition period.

Transportation reservations will continue to be scheduled through the Veterans Service Commission office. Veterans currently using the service will not experience any interruption in scheduling procedures.
