October is Safe Sleep Month

Remember to use the ABC’s of safe sleep for your baby’s naps and overnight sleep. Place your baby alone, on his or her back, in a crib.

  • The safest place for your baby to sleep is the room where you sleep but not in your bed.
  • Place your baby to sleep on a firm, flat surface. Never place your baby to sleep on adult beds, chairs, sofas, waterbeds, cushions, soft surfaces or inclined surfaces.
  • Avoid using wedges and sleep positioners.
  • Dress your baby in sleep clothing such as a sleep sack.
  • Keep temperatures in a range comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.
  • Keep soft objects out of your baby’s crib including pillows, blankets and bumper pads.
  • Consider using a pacifier at nap time and bed time once breastfeeding is well established.
  • Obtain regular prenatal care.
  • Avoid smoke exposure during pregnancy and after birth.

Stark County Health Department will be closed Oct. 12

The Stark County Health Department will be closed Monday, October 12 in observance of Indigenous Peoples’s Day. We will reopen on October 13.

Harm Reduction+ Health, Wellness and Prevention Series Continues

Join us for a free 10-week Harm Reduction+ Health, Wellness and Prevention Series in Waynesburg. It continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Nov. 19 at the Waynesburg American Legion Post #432 located at 166 E. Lisbon St.

Every Tuesday begins with Bingocize® at 10 a.m. The program combines fun, education and exercise to help prevent fall-related injuries in older adults. A trained facilitator will lead you in exercises targeting upper and lower body strength while breaks are taken for a traditional game of Bingo.

The Stark County HealthMobile will be on hand on Tuesdays for health screenings at 11 a.m.

  • Oct. 13: Cholesterol and A1C Screenings

The Stark County Health Department is now accepting UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare plans. Call 330-493-9928 for more information or if you would like to make an appointment for one of our nursing clinics.  

Online dashboard features COVID-19 and Influenza activity

An online dashboard created by Canton City Public Health is available for you to view COVID-19 and influenza activity in Stark County. This dashboard will be updated on a weekly basis to provide you with current data and resources from the Ohio Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Stark County Health Department is located in the Park Centre Plaza at 7235 Whipple Ave. NW in North Canton. We offer accessible parking to our building and are located on SARTA Bus Stop 5331 (Whipple Ave. and Batton St.).

Door #1 is the entrance for Birth and Death Certificates, Permits, Environmental Services and the Building Department. Entering Door #2, at the side of the building, will give you access to the stairs or elevator to our Nursing Services and Vaccine Clinics on the 2nd Floor of the building.

The Stark County Combined General Health District (Stark County Health Department) was founded in 1920, serving the people of Stark County for over a century. The department is currently the ninth largest health district in the State of Ohio which serves the public health needs of over 250,000 people.

The jurisdiction of the Stark County Combined General Health District is comprised of 17 Townships, 12 Villages, and the cities of Canal Fulton, Louisville, and North Canton. The mission of the department is to assess, protect, promote, and improve the health of Stark County through leadership, quality service, and community partnerships.
