WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provided by federal grants to States and then filtered down to the local level.  These grants are used for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.


Clients are seen every 3 months for an educational class or clinic visit. In return they receive breast feeding support, formula, and/or food which includes milk, eggs, peanut butter or beans, cereal, juice, whole grains and fruits and vegetables.

Our WIC Clinic is housed on the 2nd Floor of the Nursing Services Area of the Stark County Health Department, located at 7235 Whipple Ave NW, North Canton, Ohio 44720. The clinic can be accessed through Door #2 at the side of the building. There are stairs and an elevator to get you to the 2nd Floor.  Please call 330-493-9917 for more information. 

WIC (Women, Infant & Children)

WIC - the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children is intended to reach income eligible pregnant and postpartum women and children up to 5 years of age with a medical or nutrition risk. WIC services address WIC's most important goal: prevention of nutrition-related health problems.

WIC services include:

  • Nutrition and breastfeeding education and support
  • Supplemental foods supplying key nutrients
  • Referral to health care providers and community programs
  • Height checks, weight checks and iron testing

Pregnant and breastfeeding women; non-breastfeeding postpartum women, infants birth through 12 months; and children 1 to 5 years who are:

  • Present at the clinic appointment, and able to provide proof of identity
  • Residents of the state of Ohio
  • 2025 Income Guidelines
  • 2025 Income Guidelines (Spanish)
  • At medical/nutritional risk based on health and diet information assessed by a health professional at the time of certification

Proof of income:either a current Medical Card or 3 recent pay stubs

Identification:driver’s license, birth certificate or crib card (For all new babies, CRIB CARD MUST be brought to initial appointment)

Proof of pregnancy:Ultrasound or physician's note

All clinics are by appointment. Please be sure to review the hours below:

Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fourth Wednesday of the month is our late clinic which goes from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WIC benefits are supplemental and should not be relied upon as emergency food when other resources have been exhausted. WIC provides prescribed amounts of the following foods: 

  • Children and Women: 
    • Beans/peas
    • Canned fish
    • Cereal
    • Cheese
    • Eggs
    • Fruits and vegetables
    • Juice
    • Milk, Lactaid, Tofu, or Soy Milk
    • Peanut butter
    • Special formulas (if applicable)
    • Whole grain foods
  • Infants:
    • Formula
    • Infant cereal
    • Infant fruits and vegetables
    • Infant meats

Ohio WIC's breastfeeding program provides:

  • Infant feeding information to help participants make educated decisions
  • Trained peer helpers to provide ongoing support to breastfeeding participants
  • Referrals to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) if needed
  • Breast pumps to eligible mothers
