General Nursing Service Questions
Nursing services are offered on our second floor. You can enter door 2 (our side door). When you enter, take the stairs to your right or the elevator to your left at the end of the hallway.
In addition to WIC, we offer immunizations, reproductive health and wellness appointments (STI testing, annual exams, birth control options and mammogram orders), TB screenings, home visiting services and Cribs for Kids.
TB screenings are offered on Tuesdays from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Please call 330-493-9928 for more information.
Appointments are necessary for most services. We do offer walk-in TB screenings (only on Tuesdays) and walk-in STD testing.
Immunizations
Any clerk in our second-floor nursing services (not including WIC) can print out your immunization record with a client ID.
The Stark County Health Department does not provide vaccinations for international travel. Typhoid or yellow fever vaccines can be obtained at the Canton City Health Department or Summit County Public Health.
WIC
Pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to 5 may be eligible if you meet the income requirements found here.
A child can receive WIC services until age 5. A mother can receive WIC services while pregnant and for 6 months to 1-year post-partum depending on breastfeeding status (as long as you meet the income qualifications).
You can sign up for WIC as soon as you find out you’re pregnant.
You will need to sign up for the WIC location according to where you live.

WIC helps income eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who recently had a baby, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition. Community Health
If you need help getting a car seat for your child, please contact the Early Childhood Resource Center at 330-491-3272. Insurance and Billing
A deductible is the cost that you pay for health care services or an insurance claim before your insurance company pays. The out-of-pocket cost is the maximum cost that you are required to pay for services in a plan year. Once your deductible is reached, your insurance plan determines your remaining costs.
A cost share is the share of costs covered by your insurance that you pay out of your own pocket.
A coordination of benefits form is required yearly for your insurance company to know who the primary payer for services will be and to keep your information up to date.

Environmental Health
The health department follows up on:
- Open dumping of solid waste, construction and demolition debris and scrap tires
- Home sewage system failures
- Mold issues within apartments and rental units
- Mice, rats and rodent infestation
- Mosquito and standing water
- Anonymous complaints on any licensed facilities such as food services, retail food operations and pools
Water wells are recommended to be tested on a yearly basis for total coliform bacteria. Consider more frequent testing in situations including:
- If small children, elderly adults, pregnant or nursing individuals live in your household
- If there are changes in water quality (odor, color, taste)
- The well has been repaired or replaced
- There is a nearby source of contamination
- There has been recent flooding or a major storm
Our mosquito program controls mosquito-borne disease through integrated pest management. Our approach includes trapping and monitoring mosquitoes for disease across the communities in our jurisdiction. We apply larvicide (a mosquito insecticide) in areas of standing water and abandoned pools and adulticide (another form of mosquito pesticide) in areas where mosquito-borne disease is found.
Wash any bite with soap and water as soon as possible, consult with your doctor and report the incident. Any animal bites must be reported to the Stark County Health Department within 24 hours of the incident. Please use this form.
