Zoning in Stark County
Stark County does not have county wide zoning, instead zoning regulations are adopted by the individual townships, cities and villages in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. Twelve and one-half townships have adopted zoning out of the 17 unincorporated townships, as well as the six cities and eight of the villages located within the county.
Official zoning maps and regulations are maintained by the individual political subdivisions. Contact the zoning inspector for information on zoning districts, permitted uses, parkingand lot requirements, sign regulations and other specific questions regarding zoning. Some of the zoning resolutions are available on the web.
The Regional Planning Commission recommends to the township zoning commissions on proposed zoning resolutions and amendments to those resolutions, in accordance with Chapter 519 of the Ohio Revised Code. Pamphlets which outline the Township and Municipal Amendment Procedures in ORC 519.12 and 713.12 are available to assist the public. Another pamphlet outlining the Powers and Duties of the Township Board of Zoning Appeals, ORC 519.14 and 519.15, is also available.
SCRPC staff members coordinate Zoning Inspectors' Mutual Assistance Meetings throughout the year. Speakers on topics of interest to zoning inspectors make presentations to the group. Time is allotted to discuss issues faced by local zoning inspectors, with zoning inspectors from other communities offering input through situations they have faced. The group is designed for township zoning inspectors, however, both city and village zoning personnel find the meetings helpful as well.
